Crabtree Cup 2009
St Joseph's I v Vernon Carus III

Vernon Carus lifted the Crabtree Cup for the 3rd time in the cup's 13 year history. Vernon's won the toss
and elected to bowl first on a sunny day at Walton-le-Dale CC and soon reduced St Joes to 54-7 after 20 overs.
A sublime innings by steve Worswick (58) saw St Joes reach 147 all out, a respectable score after the position
they were in but about 20 or 30 runs below par.

Vernons set about the total with openers Pete Melloy and Simon Peet but things started badly when Peet went
for a duck off the bowling of Richardson. An eye catching innings of 32 by David Hankin and a classy 50 by
Mark Hardiker, including a massive 6 over the houses and into Higher Walton Road, saw Vernons home by 6 wickets,
Melloy finishing on 49 not out.

There were a few contenders for man of the match, Steve Worswick for his innings saving 50, Don Parker for his 3
for 9 off 8 overs, but it was awarded to Mark Hardiker for his 50 and 3 for 34.

The event was a complete success and a large crowd enjoyed the game and the facilities on offer
(the bar and barbeque both selling out even after a refill)
