1st XI continued their improved recent form with an excellent win over Penwortham 2nd XI. With James Ainscough moving abroad, John Taylor took over the captaincy and started well, winning the toss and asking Penwortham to bat first on a green wicket. Mac Morris made an early break through but then Penwortham built a decent partnership for the 2nd wicket. Ed Brown managed to get the breakthrough but Penwortham continued to build a decent score, Dave Jackson in particular causing the Dale bowlers some issues. New signing Abdul Rehman Shah came into the attack and removed Jackson with an excellent Yorker. He continued to take Penwortham wickets and they collapsed to 139 all out.
Dale didn’t start the run chase well, losing 4 wickets inside the first 10 overs but Winstanley (30) and Cuffin (23) steadied the ship before Mac Morris blasted 49 not out off 46 balls supported by Pathan (20 not out) to see us home.
2nd XI batted first at Hutton Grammar but had a nightmare, only Iqbal Ahmed managing a decent score. Iqbal was attacked whilst driving his taxi 2 weeks ago and its a credit to him that he was able to dig in and try and get a score. All out for 74 which was always going to be under par despite the poor bounce on Hutton’s astroturf wicket.
Dale where left rueing not making 100, as Penwortham were 8 down when they chased down the target. Vahaluwala picking up 4 wickets.
